EMBRACE OURSELVES
Evening, peeps!! 😃
If I ask you what beauty is and how you perceive someone as beautiful, what would you say? Is it someone who has fair skin and
rounded eyes? Or someone with a tanned skin and S-shaped body?
Well.. I have no answer for that!
BEAUTY; a word that has no absolute
definition, and for me, beauty lies solely in observation. It has become a huge
issue among adolescents (including me, of course) on how to be beautiful. Well, actually
we are the victims of commercials to believe that we should be unhappy with our
own physical flaws and feel the urge to beautify ourselves to please
others. Needless to say, we want to be perfect
(but no one’s perfect though), however, the pressure nowadays are higher due to
all the cosmetics commercials or even plastic surgery. Until now, the concept
of beauty has evolved and it is still evolving along the advancement of
technology. The advertisement either it is on television or ads on YouTube,
also portrays the ideal body for a man or woman in order to classify themselves
as beautiful.
The anxiety of body image also has become
a concern for the society nowadays as psychological issues arise drastically
over the years such as bulimia, anorexia and manorexia. The person who is
suffering from this needs to join rehab center and other clinics where they
could seek help from the psychotherapists, but certainly not a plastic surgeon.
It is important for teenagers especially, to learn to embrace themselves just
the way they are. IT IS OKAY TO HAVE FLAWS – acne, scars, and sudden body
changes - especially during puberty because of the hormonal changes in the
body.
”And when you smile
The whole world stops and stares for a while
'Cause, girl, you're amazing
Just the way you are”
Bruno Mars – Just the Way You Are
The picture shows the ideal features of the face
according to the society based on a beauty survey. This reminds me of my
previous English class which Pn. Anita asked us to rank a few celebrities based
on our perception of beauty, and of course, there are many outcomes (like… A
LOT!!) even though there are only 13 people in my classroom. Truth to be told,
beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
All in all, beauty is subjective.
Accept for who you really are, and be proud! You are beautiful and keep your focus
away from dwelling on physical appearance.
Till next time, have a great weekend!!
